CAIR Awards

Dr. Joseph Mikhael CAIR Award for Medical Education:

This award honours those who have contributed to improving undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in Canada. For several years Dr. Joseph Mikhael was a member of the CAIR Board of Directors where he worked tirelessly to represent the interests of all the residents in Canada. His efforts re-focused CAIR’s role in medical education and the Board has created this award in honour of his achievements.

2011 - Dr. Lara Cooke (Assistant Professor of Neurology, University of Calgary)

2010 - Dr. Rishi Gupta (PGY5 Opthalmology, University of Ottawa)

2009 - Dr. George Elleker (Associate Dean, PGME, the University of Alberta)

2008 - Dr. Colin Chalk (Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, McGill University)

2007 - Dr. Brian Hodges (Director of the Wilson Centre, University of Toronto)

2006 - Dr. Alecs Chochinov (Previous chair of the Canadian Medical Association Council on Education and Workforce)

2005 - Dr. Nadia Mikhael (former Director of Education for the Royal College)

 

Dr. Derek Puddester CAIR Award for Resident Wellbeing:

This award honours those who have contributed to improving resident well being in Canada. For several years Dr. Derek Puddester was a member of the CAIR Board of Directors and served as CAIR President where he represented the well-being of all residents in Canada. His efforts re-focused CAIR’s role in resident well-being and the Board has created this award in honour of his achievements.

2010 - Dr. Keith Wycliffe-Jones (Program Director, Family Medicine, University of Calgary)

2009 - Dr. David Vanderburgh (then PGY2 Family Medicine & Co-Chief Resident Family Medicine NOSM Thunder Bay)

2008 - The Alberta Physician and Family Support Program (PFSP)

2007 - Dr. François Bourque (former President of the FMRQ Resident Wellness Committee)

2006 - Dr. Jordan Cohen (Director of Student Affairs in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary)

2005 - Mrs. Lois Ross (former Executive Director of PAIRO)

2004 - Dr. Monica Penner (formerly CAIR Well-being Committee)

2003 - Dr. Hanif Chatur (formerly of PAR-BC)

2002 - Dr. Mike Myers (Clinical Professor in Psychiatry, University of British Columbia)

 

The Lois Ross CAIR Award for Service to Residents

This award honours those allied health professionals who have contributed to the advancement of resident life in Canada. For several years Lois Ross served as Executive Director of CAIR and PAIRO where she worked tirelessly to represent the interests of all residents in Canada. In recognition of her countless contributions to resident life in Canada, the Board has created this award in honour of her achievements.

Winners:

2011- Ms Carmen Frese (Post-graduate Program Co-ordinator, Department of Family Medicine, University of Calgary)

2010 - not awarded

2009 - Dr. Karen Saperson (Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry & Neurosciences, McMaster)
