Overview

The Canadian Association of Internes and Residents (CAIR) is the national representative body of over 7,500 Resident Physicians in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, the Maritime Provinces, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

CAIR has evolved over time to be a "blended" organization both representing Resident members across Canada, across specialties and across other diversity elements. Provincial Housestaff Organizations (PHOs) represent the personal and practice interests of Internes and Residents at the regional level. CAIR facilitates discussions amongst PHOs, achieving consensus on policy and advocacy issues of a national interest. It delivers improvement to the lives of Residents in such areas as personal well-being, medical education quality, and professionalism.

CAIR also works collaboratively with other national health organizations to continuously improve patient care and explore new approaches in the delivery of health care.

The Head Office is located in Ottawa, Ontario.
